Bio

Christopher Schmitt is a lens-based artist residing in Ottawa, on unceded Anishinaabe territory. His work explores disruptive technologies and the impact they have on the networks of our minds, and on our land. Schmitt’s work examines the idea that perhaps this dark side is not a mirror reflection of our society, but rather a new world entirely. His work helps viewers navigate between abstraction and reality, providing visual clues to this uncertain virtual landscape.

Schmitt was the recipient of a City of Ottawa Creation and Production Grant in 2022, an Ontario Arts Grant in 2023 and recently completed residencies at the SPAO Centre and the Ingenium Research Centre in Ottawa.  Schmitt has exhibited his work at the SPAO Gallery, the City of Ottawa's Corridor 45|75 Gallery, the Summerville Art Festival, and online at ArtDoc Magazine. His photos have been published in PhotoEd, Do it for the Grain, and the Ottawa Photography & Art Label (OPAL) Magazines. His artwork has been purchased by the City of Ottawa and by private collectors.

All the proceeds from my sales go towards producing and exhibiting my artwork. See below or sales information. I also accept commissions.

Print Sales

My prints are unframed. I print the smaller images with a white border on 11”x14” and 16"x20" archival quality Hahnemühle fine art paper. For larger prints I use Epson or Hahnemühle fine art paper, depending on what's available. I use only archival pigment ink to print me work.

Prints larger than 11x14 are signed, titled and editioned by hand beneath the image. I register each print on MyArtRegistry and will provide you with a Hahnemühle Certificate of Authenticity. Note that I may introduce new editions in a different size at a future date.

Dye Sublimation on Metal

I use ChromaLuxe HD to print on metal, up to 60" wide. Each piece comes with a floating frame is ready to hang. These stunningly beautiful metal prints are lightweight, resilient, and archival quality.

Pricing

I sell my prints from $100 and up, depending on size. To purchase any of my photographs please contact me at chrisjschmitt@gmail.com to let me know where you live, and what you're looking for, and I'll send you my current price list.
